Men
and women sail together in vast numbers.
The women with castanets,
the men pipe; singing
and clapping the while. At
any of the towns, the
women call to the females of
the place with abuse and some
stand up uncovering
themselves. When
they reach Per Bastet,
they celebrate the feast
with abundant sacrifices.
More grape-wine is
consumed at this festival
than in all the rest of
the year. -Herodotus
Festival of
Bast, April
